Salha

Salha Yussuf Rajab, born on 15th December 2010 in Jambiani, is a Form 1 student at Hasnuu Makame Secondary School. She completed her primary education in 2024 with excellent results (Division I). Coming from a family of seven children, Salha’s education journey is under pressure due to financial hardship since only one of the parents has a job: Her father is unemployed, while her mother is a teacher. Their limited income is insufficient to cover essential school expenses. The family fights with tuition contributions, uniforms, and learning materials. The household itself lacks a conducive study environment. They also struggle with her brother who just completed form 4 but is unable to continue with his education and there are other children to take care of.
Most of the time Salha is in a boarding school but during holidays and when the schools are closed, she will be at home; her mother must then take care of her all the time even going to the toilet as she does not have pedestal toilet. To continue her education smoothly, Salha requires assistance with tuition fees, uniforms, learning materials, exam costs, digital resources (like a laptop), an electrical wheelchair, and – if possible – a pedestal toilet. In addition, Salha needs professional help to identify the problem and a possible treatment.
Despite these hardships, Salha has proven to be a hardworking and ambitious student, excelling particularly in English, Kiswahili, and Geography. She dreams of becoming a journalist to support her family and serve her country.
